Virtual reality used to transfer men’s minds into a woman’s body

Researchers projected men’s sense of self into a virtual reality woman, changing the way they behaved and thought.
Scientists have transferred men’s minds into a virtual woman’s body in an experiment that could enlighten the prejudiced and shed light on how humans distinguish themselves from others.

Subjective/Objective Migration of the Caribou

Caribou from Allison Walker on Vimeo.
For an assignment intending to investigate our chosen animal, Caribou, from a subjective and objective perspective, Jenine Durland and I made a pseudo-documentary of the Porcupine Caribou. I dressed as our character, while Jenine provided the voice-over in the video. Video editing by her; voice editing by me.
The mask [...]

Still thinking about changing my final project idea: interactive plant vs blinky lights?

A discussion Monday night got me thinking about my Phys comp final again. I like the bionic gardening, but I also want something really fun. The other student I was talking with was trying to convince me to do my original-ish LED light board idea. So, at home I thought about it a little bit [...]

Using FSRs to turn on vibration motorsor

Tonight I was working on putting together some of the pieces for my Android Pet Plant.
To make the plant vibrate, I plan to use the 1″ FSRs around the flower pot which will trigger at least 2 vibration motors. To test this out, I cut open a cardboard Diamond Crystal salt container and stuck a [...]

Event: The Kitchen Presents - Nancy Garcia/Chase Granoff

Saturday, November 7, I went to The Kitchen with a friend to see a double performance by Nancy Garcia and Chase Granoff. Nancy Garcia is also a graduate of ITP.
As far as Chase Granoff’s work, “The Art of Making Dances”, I quite liked it. I found it easy to “get” quickly, in that I found [...]

UPDATE: Psychology 640/EECS 695: Neural Models

I emailed Leeann Fu, who co-taught the Neural Models class the first time and is still teaching it, apparently. And, thankfully. She replied to my email and sent me the 17-page syllabus, as well as suggesting 3 books I might be interested in reading. Here they are:
“Vehicles“, by Valentino Braitenberg.
“Gut Feelings“, by Gerd Gigerenzer. Leeann [...]

Psychology 640/EECS 695: Neural Models

In the Winter Semester, 2005 at the University of Michigan, I signed up for this interdisciplinary class between Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Psychology department call Neural Models. Due to the anxiety of figuring out my final semester before graduation (I think?), I missed one day of class. Unfortunately, the structure of the [...]

Paper: Why Do Dominant Personalities Attain Influence in Face-to-Face Groups?

“People perceive those that are overconfident to be competent, which in turn gives them power.  This irritating effect may clarify a lot about the past decade in American life.” — Jerry Davis, co-director, Interdisciplinary Committee on Organizational Studies, University of Michigan
I was reading this paper today on trait dominance, or the ability of people who [...]

This video is good for you grown-ups, too.

Last week in our Communications Lab class, we discussed photo manipulation.
Today, a friend posted a video on her FB Wall, that really depicts the whole process - from makeup session, to photo session, to photo manipulation and print.
I really like the video, but what I don’t understand is why people constantly make the comment that [...]
